Koreans: The Most Misunderstood Visitors in the Philippines

August 3, 2007

Living in the US and getting to know different people from different cultures, this article does indeed point out that most Filipinos do indeed misunderstand the Koreans. Koreans tend to stick together (maybe because of they’re not comfortable with English as much) if they’re going out to eat, mall, etc. and this may have labeled them as the article states.

But I beg to differ, Filipinos in groups are also tend to be noisy too, especially tourists. And for some odd reason, Filipinos somehow learn to somewhat discipline themselves and obey the laws more when they go to other countries.

This seems to be the first time that there’s a lot of tourist in the Philippines and that’s why other people may feel uncomfortable about this, but tourist being “noisy and undisciplined” is quite the norm.

Filipino journalists, traders, villagers describe them as too noisy, undisciplined and more
Source: Ohmynews

Korean visitors, students and "tourists" in the Philippines have been seen and observed as "too noisy, undisciplined and rowdy."

Because of their behavior many Filipino businessmen do not welcome the presence of Koreans in their establishments.

In Baguio City, for instance, Filipino golfers refer the former American rest and recreation enclave as "Kim Jong Hay" because there are more Koreans than locals in Camp John Hay.

A golf club in the northern part of the Philippines reportedly put a sign "Koreans are not allowed," a racist move.

I once visited Korea and saw them otherwise. They are disciplined, friendly and helpful contrary to their actuations in Manila or in Puerto Galera.

When I was in Seoul, I even befriended the assistant manager of a posh music lounge although we had language barrier. We even exchanged souvenir items.

But in the Philippines columnists say Korean visitors are not contributing to the economy. This is because Koreans own Internet and gaming cafes, computer shops, restaurants, travel and tour companies, groceries, spas and salons, freight companies, language schools and even churches.

Immigration officials say of the more than 240,000 Koreans in the country about one-sixth are documented. This means more than 200,000 Koreans have no travel and immigration papers — half of the number have been waiting for their papers and the rest are unregistered.

But who are the gatekeepers? If immigration officials are wondering their presence, the government operatives themselves are to be blamed.

The strength of the peso, which has the same value more than seven years ago, and the growth of the Korean economy could be the factors that emboldened the salaried Koreans and the middle class to enjoy their money in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete, Manila or even Boracay Island.

It is cheaper to spend their vacation money in the Philippines than in other Asian countries, like Japan or Singapore.

Another factor could be that Korean parents want the best for their children– and an English education is a passport for a better paying job or moving to the United States.

Koreans could be right. For example, our interpreter in Korea earned $100 an hour, comparable to top executive heading an export division who has no export marketing training but with only an English major diploma as credential.

Filipinos should understand the culture of the Koreans before they conclude about them. Filipinos tolerate the presence of the Chinese or the Spaniards because they live among Filipinos for centuries.

In fact most Filipinos have Chinese blood in their veins. Even the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, had Chinese ancestors.

The foundation of the Korean Catholics in the Philippines started way back in the 18th century when Father Kim Dae Gun established a mission in Bulacan province.

The second wave was from 1945 to 1970; the third wave in the 1980s, the fourth in 1990s and the fifth since 2000 onwards.

But compared to the more than 15,000 undocumented Filipinos in cities outside Seoul who could not be seen during daytime or nighttime but only during Christmas and special holidays, undocumented Koreans in the Philippines are even selling used computers in cites in Metro Manila, like in San Juan City or in Laguna and Cavite provinces.

In Seoul I met a Cebuano undocumented entertainment worker in a bar in the Red Light district. I saw a Filipino woman in our hotel past midnight. She said she had to move secretly since immigration agents in Korea are strict compared with those in the Philippines.

My investigation, however, showed that these retail stores are owned and run by Filipino women married to Korean businessmen, who could be overstaying.

I even interviewed one of the shop owners in Calamba City where I bought a computer package for my daughter.

She said they get their slightly used units from Korea in bulk. However, I failed to interview her Korean husband. The couple also owned a branch store in Santa Rosa City, also in Laguna province.

Whether Filipino traders welcome the Koreans or not, it is a fact that as long as Koreans invest in the country, there are jobs for Filipinos.

Even Consul General Hong Sung Mog would suspend the issuance of working visa to Korea,as he did earlier this month, there are jobs offered by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction and its ship building facility for welders, and for others in Subic in Zambales.

In short, understanding the culture of the Koreans is the only way to better appreciate their contribution to the Philippine economy.

i beg to partially disagree to your opinion that understanding their culture is the ONLY way to better appreciate their contribution to our economy. they may provide an amount to our economy, but that doesn’t have to mean that understanding them is the only way.
we receive a number of different tourist (not the same number as they, though), and we do not hear multiple comments from our locales. you see, when people complain, there is a proble. there are various articles regarding koreans being uncouth and boorish-and that’s the main point. we feel disrespected by their “manners” and whose foot is stepping on whose house anyway?
we may be hospitable, but we’re not stupid. if they can give us money, a good thanks to them, but their cash didn’t buy our dignity. peerhaps, it would be better if they understood our culture, before they come here. isn’t it to do as the Romans do when in Rome?

Generally, KOREANS are ugly USERS. They come here to Philippines for many reasons and if they already get what they want, they will leave at any time in our country. Leaving dirts in our land. I just hope that the government will implement strict rules for these abusive koreans.

I heard that the only way to enter our country is to acquire VISA. Then, they can study here and travel everywhere. But why is it, that they are some KOreans are putting their own business and what they are applying to put up small business? perhaps they will also stay longer for many years. Some without having a business permit from the Philippine government itself. That’s too much. Obviously, they are not respecting us. They should learn their own limitations. We are not servant in our own country. Filipinos are not that dumb.

This blog post is very informative. Koreans have little respect for Filipino Culture. They think Filipinos are low. I do not want to be racist, but if Koreans want to stay in our country they should at least socialize at least in the same level with the Chinese. The Chinese know how to do PR. Koreans are all money. Winner winner chicken dinner. Even in schools my sister say that they are loners - but when they see their fellow koreans they keep to themselves.

I HATE KOREANS. They are just rude and stupid. I was in Korea in May, and I can attest that Korea is not multicultural as it tries to project, Seoul is a pile of shitty buildings (the pollution is so bad in some days you can barely see buildings), there are no decent international cuisine there (care for a 75USD per person meal at the 63 building on sloppy and oily steak with stained tablecloths?), and yeah, some old guy took advantage of me when I was at the ticket station at the Seoul Metro (the stupid old guy behind the counter issued two tickets and the old guy took one that was obviously I paid for).

One story, I was walking home going to my apartment Korea when I saw a hair salon which says”Live Hair Salon”, so I took out the camera and started taking photos kasi nga nakakatawa, tapos biglang lumabas itong Koreana at tinanong ako kung bakit ako nagtetake pictures but tho nakakaintindi ako ng Korean, sinagot ko sya sa English na hindi ako nagsasalita ng Korean pagkatapos nun she swore at me saying in Korean “This f*cking foreigners coming to Korea without learning Korean.” I put in the “f*cking” there because I understood what she said since I know some Korean myself (she said shiballo- which either means pu*angina, sonofabitch or f*ck”- so natigilan ako, at sinigawan ko din sya ng shipal - mura din nila sa Korean. Ng dumaan ako ulit dun, inihian ko nga ang airconditioner nila at tinapon ko sigarilyo sa loob ng aircon. pu*angina pala sila eh. racist na kung racist. epal sila.

They dint think I was Pinoy at first because I am a lightskinned Mestizo of Spanish Jew ancestry (I told them of course). Meron din akong pinagalitang Koreano, aba eh, pinaghawak ba naman ako ng umbrellas nya, eh p*ñeta sya, guest kaya ako sa isang international conference sa Seoul! I was in Seoul for 3 Days, and in a suburb outside of Seoul for about 7 days.

I dont understand why Filipinos are soo going ga-ga over Koreans. For crying out loud, ano maganda sa walang mata? taena, tingin nila sa mga Pinoy, construction worker, maid at pokpok. Sa Korea, ampapangit ng mga tao, konti lang ang ganyang nakikita nyo sa TV. Yung Han river nila? Mas malinis lang ng konti sa Pasig. Tapos yung Palaces, once you see one- you’ve seen them all. If Seoul is the Soul of Asia, then Buddha forbid, Asia is doomed.

I wouldnt recommend anyone going to Korea. Punta kayo sa ibang bansa, pero Korea is a place you’d like to avoid. It’s expensive and its sh*t- and I mean the people and the place. I’ve been around a lot of nationalities from all over the world, and has travelled quite a bit, and Koreans are the most disgustingly obnoxious people I’ve ever met.

Posted by xxxriainxxx at July 13, 2008, 11:07 pm

on my flight back from Korea, may tangang Koreano- nagsmoke ba naman sa banyo ng eroplano while nasa himpapawid kami???

at yung bestfriend ko nagoyo ng mga Koreano sa negosyo dito sa Pilipinas- isang kilalang internet cafe network ito. meron sila jan sa may Makati Ave and Boracay.

I have friends from the airport sa Clark, sa NAIA and sa Aklan and they tell me, Korean travellers are the rudest. They shout, kick carts, just plain rude. That’s how bad it is.

another bestfriend ko, came from a physically abusive relationship with her Korean ex-husband. I saw her with bruises pag nagkikita kami.

Now, property brokers wouldnt rent out to Koreans na. Kasi once pinarent sila, they would cram a lot of people in one apartment. tsk - cheapskates

Okay, eto ang latest, ang PE Teacher at Yang Jeong Middle School Girls at Icheon City, Gyeonggi-do Province sa Korea said that lahat ng mga Pinay pokpok daw. Lahat ha, kasama nanay mo at nanay ko. Sinabi nya sa kaibigan kung Australyano last week. O ano?

Korea Sparkling my cute, bubbly, pinkish Filipino ass.

NOTE: These are all Firsthand information.

This just proves your blog expressed the whole truth there is so much misunderstanding against the Koreans who frequently visit the Philippines.People desliked Koreans either by one off bad experience or few plus backped up by strongly preconceived negative stereotypes of Korean nationals .

I am living outside of PI and do frequent visits . I bumped and meet few Koreans through friends and my experiences were largely different . I go to malls and see what looked like waved of Koreans shopping around ,seen them next table in restos .I am not bothered neither annoyed of their presence ,or how annoyingly out of touch they were to Philippine culture.I haven’t observe it yet though. But perhaps even if I happen to see something unpleasant from a korean,i would never single out the whole Korean people to be all the same .

I ‘ll put it simply , same like us pinoys there are good and bad ones.As they come in big waves than other foreign tourists ,then we see more korean scambags, the undesirables too in big numbers marching the streets in PI .How we call koreans as destructive to the environmnt ,nasty… but look at our pinoy brothers who selfishly suck rsources meant for the people for their own personal ends and inflating themselves leaving many in hunger and deprivation as the ultimate outcome to many millions of filipinos ,that’s even worsed than the koreans .

Those people in power and authority backing up drug syndicates for under the table money,no wonder drug problems and escallating crimes exists . Only the poor ‘ kakha tuka ‘ drug vendors get caught and penalized .

We see and pick on others mistakes than we see our own .If we do ,we tend to deny them.

I hope the other folks posting here know what they are talking . I agree ,if Koreans need educating about Filipino Culture,i say daringly our many pinoy brothers n sisters need some kind of education too and familairity with other cultures and not being too judgemental .As a the receiving end and starving of investments and jobs ,we have no choice .

Your blog is very informative and has more depth in it . More power to you and your time of writing and posting it online for everyone .

Have a nice day !

The article although interesting i think misses the point. I dont know what it is about the Koreans i see besides the dress sense is a little strange, noisy, disrespectful and from friends i know who are stuck with a lot of the “Korean students” that live like pigs are very noisy and disruptive. Although im not a racist i have yet to meet a Korean that can change my view on them because they are generally abusing things in the philippines which also includes staff working for them. They have also brought the Korean Mafia into the country with them which increases violent crime. They do bring money into the economy but what will be the long term effects?

i agree with you… I’m not trying to put down the Filipinos but it is indeed true that Filipinos do need to understand.. So what if other countries don’t, should we take the initiative to do so?

This is our country and if we want to stop this “Korean wave” why don’t we? but no.. Our televisions are filled with them, and why is the goverment letting them in? In short, we also profit from them as we they do to us. If we don’t, they we should have let them go home a long time ago.

The long term effects, yes it is scary to think of. But it is in our desicion to control this, yet we don’t… All I can see now is we are helping them as they do help us. Why can’t we just get along and make each other prosper?

Just a comment : Ive been to Suwon korea last yr. , training there for 2 mons coz I worked in samsung phils before . I have many bad and good encounters with koreans, one ex. is when we were at the dormitory and watching movie on TV, this room is common room to dorm occupants so anyone can watch, we were 3 filipinos and 4 koreans…one korean left but slammed the door as if trying to knock you out, I dont know if this is normal to them but this is what Ive noticed evrytime they close their doors…on the otherhand, koreans Ive co -work in samsung are friendly and nice , maybe theyre well educated..they treat us to korean cuisines and fast food and even movie. When you done thats favor for them like helping them to finish their work, they will try to return it by treat you out…I just want to imply that koreans are same as Filipinos, there is bad and good guys. I think we should be proud that they are coming to phils. to tour, work, live and invest.. its just a matter of time for filipinos and koreans to work hand in hand and live in one place peacefully…

Posted by Evil Ryu at October 16, 2008, 2:52 pm

These Koreans come to the Philippines to develop everything for themselves only! Golf courses in pristine areas, ugly buiding near pristine beaches and mountains, stores for themselves. I do not trust these Koreans. They are abusing the Philippines all for the mighty cash. Why can’t they just come to the Philippines, pay for our services and goods and get out? Why do they need to be here legally of illegally? I don’t trust them at all. I’d take the Japanese and American tourists any day.

Posted by fuckthekoreans at October 26, 2008, 11:29 pm

As for Filipinos should understand Korean culture, Koreans should understand our culture first. If I were to go to Korea, it would be my duty to understand their culture. Dumbass article. Koreans are better off managing 7-11.

Posted by fuckthekoreans at October 26, 2008, 11:39 pm

You are the most ridiculous Filipino I have ever encountered..

Promoting hate? Yeah that’ll really help our country.. Good job. Pay for our services and goods and get out? Ahahaha!! You know what? Look at South Korea my friend, look how well they have prospered so far and check out our nation. What the hell happened? They must have done something right and we took a wrong turn at some point.. If we want to catch up to other nations who are on the rise then bickering about such pointless matters isn’t going to help. Instead of promoting hate why don’t we work on improving ourselves so that people around the world will recognize how great the Philippine culture really is. fuckthekoreans… Honestly?

Racism to others=Degrading ourselves

Think about it.

i onced travelled to the US and in the same airplane was two korean couples who exhibited the weirdest crappiest behaviors i’ve ever seen so far. okay, they may not be as tragic as one might think but it will make you go “Oh MY GOD!”. I pity the American flight attendants who had to deal with both those couples. it was simply.. out of this world. One of the couples keep taking their dog out of their bag (even when repeatedly told that it’s illegal) and when the time came to dim the lights (aka sleeping time) they actually had their BARE feet up on the side of the plane (window side). the woman of the 2nd couple, on the other hand, refused to sit tight while the plane was getting off just because she was looking for a jacket. and when the lights were dimmed too she stepped on the arm rest and reached for another pair of shoes on the luggage compartment above. she didn’t even care to step down first before removing and replacing her own boots with the new pair of shoes in mid air. EEGGADD! — and that’s just my story.. there’s a lot of stories out there too

I’m Filipino (but from the U.S.) and currently living here in the PI. Some little Korean kid spit on me on the street today, so I spit right back!!! He did it to some other Filipinos and they did nothing back. I don’t know whats wrong with Filipinos…STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES!!

I’m an American (Filipino by race) and I wouldn’t take that crap from any loser Korean who couldn’t make it in their own country! Nobody would dare come to the U.S. and treat locals like crap, so why do people in the Philippines allow Koreans to do it to them???

I have to disagree with this article, I’ve seen Koreans to be rude. Obviously the person writing this article is Korean and has a personal Bias. Koreans in the US aren’t like this at all. I’ve had pretty good experiences with Koreans back in the home, but things are different out here!!! It amazes me how Koreans from Korea are in the way they act.

I don’t mind them speaking their own language. I don’t speak Tagalog at all and feel more comfortable with other people who speak English. I just think its a language barrier thing with them.

Oh yeah Koreans do beat the crap out of their wives. Some Korean women don’t even want to date Korean men anymore. And I don’t blame them!

Posted by gmoney415 at December 25, 2008, 11:45 pm

There are lots of Koreans here in Davao, they seem to like the place!

Posted by Marco at January 31, 2009, 9:13 am

Yeah..women should also never ever trust koreans (men and women)…. THey’ll be good at first but after..they’ll be the worst people you’ve ever met.
…They’re users… racist…and They think that they’re superior that filipino’s.

…THey’re also WEAK… KOrean Women are hypocrites!….

This has been posted for more than a year now yet people are still commenting. Wow! Anyway, I’ve been dealing with Koreans since I started working because I teach them English. And most people here are right. They’re just the same as everybody else. They have their good sides and bad sides. Seems like this post has hit a very important issue.

But what I don’t understand is the part wherein “understanding the culture of the Koreans is the only way to better appreciate their contribution to the Philippine economy”.

We DO know how they help the economy and how they provide jobs. Fine. But isn’t it high time that THEY understand us? I haven’t had problems with my current employer but my colleagues have been saying stuffs about them. Let me tell you, most of them (if not all) are not familiar with the Philippine laws regarding employment. Now that’s just one issue.

If we have to understand where they’re coming from, it is also their duty to at least do their homework before settling here. And why do they stay here? One major factor: low cost of living. A student told me it’s very expensive to live in Korea, especially in Seoul. and regarding education, you might be suprised to know that the CHEAPEST university there costs a little less than the MOST EXPENSIVE university in the Philippines which is approximately Php 100 000 per semester. I didn’t make that up. A Korean told me that.

I’ve seen the bad and the good Koreans. And I hate it when they scrutinize and criticize the nation’s shortcomings when they would rather stay here than go home.

whoa. …..understanding one’s culture is really important, but i guess you should also consider your location.Koreans, being in a foreign country,it’s their responsibility to respect one’s culture as well as other nationalities. In my opinion, its not the country, its not about who is who,it’s about our own personality. Some Koreans are rude, some are not. Some Filipinos are nice some are not.But one thing is for sure, its you who can and will decide for your own personality.

Posted by zoejane at May 19, 2009, 2:57 am

@jack rhee doing reverse psychology in order for people here to hate more the koreans.

i agree at zoejane its just that we just dont have to generalize the rudeness of one to a whole. when i went to korea i didnt feel any discrimination at all and me and my friends proved to ourselves that not all of them are rude. i experienced that when we got lost and some korean teens tried to help us even they only knew few english words and they are quite friendly and eager to meet foreign people. i really met a lot of koreans because it was a congress and i can say that they are all nice and friendly. and until now we still have communications. and about them being timid its quite pretty normal ikaw b nmn d mkikipagdaldalan k b s mga d mo naiintindhan? i have a korean friend and we speak english when we tell stories that’s why until now we are still best buddies.

I had two classmates that are korean, in a college school in manila. they always sit together in the left row, just the two of them. and all of us are in the right row. we were only few in the class. all they do everytime there is class, is to laugh, whisper in korean! where we can’t understand who they are talking about, they don’t even respect the professor everytime he calls their attention. our profesor is a silent type person so he just ignores them. in the end of the term, we had to pass a paper, it is an english class. and guess what, our professor told us that their paper was merely copied. copy, paste etc. so they failed since that paper is a big part of the grade.

Hi to all fellow pinoys out there!my research for my thesis took me to this place, and I was moved by this article and the comments.I thought that korean wave was really cool and nice, but it wasn’t.I’ve seen the ‘other side of the coin’.After all,it may please us because of their koreanovelas, etc. but we tend to lose our nationalism ‘coz of that…our TVs are crammed by korean series and we kill our own industry(add the piracy),yet the broadcasting companies tolerate it for the sake of ratings.even they help our economy through their investment and tourism,we’re losing our IDENTITY,our unique and rich culture and the freedom to express which makes up our identity, all of this which our ancestors have been deprived for more than 300yrs.I’ve gone too far,but I hope that our country would grow not just from investments and things dependent from other,BUT FROM OUR EFFORT TO CHANGE THINGS,STARTING FROM OURSELVES.mabuhay ang Pinoy!

Yes, the Philippines is a total shit hole.

Posted by PI SUCKS at August 7, 2009, 2:06 pm

My experience of Filipinos in general is a bunch or STUPID people additionally, liars, cheaters and thieves. This is within the country. Once they leave the country, they turn into semi-decent human beings but put them in a group and you got stupid again. They lack the common sense on the basics. CEBU is a total shit hole. Tell any Filipino their country is shit and they say it is nice. Ask them then, “what is so nice about it?” There is pin drop silence for a few hours while they try and think up something positive to say.

Posted by PI SUCKS at August 7, 2009, 2:12 pm

Let’s talk about a chick names Barbi at Banco de Oro in Cebu SM Branch. An absolute piece of shit. Customer service in the loans department sucks at Banco de Oro Cebu SM because they have absolutely no regards for the customer. They are the customer and you are treated like a janitor. Barbi is on a total power trip and if you are a foreigner, she will threaten you with the fact that her uncle is an NBI agent, which the NBI is a total bullshit organization to begin with. NBI is the National Bureau of Idiots!!!

Posted by PI SUCKS at August 7, 2009, 2:18 pm

So Aquino is dead. It would be a better celebration if Gloria was dead. I have no tolerance for a failed democracy in today’s environment. As I said people in PI are stupid. They know things can get better if they tried but they would rather accept the status quo and would rather bitch and complain all day about how bad things are rather than to do anything about it.

Posted by PI SUCKS at August 7, 2009, 2:24 pm

Paul Collingz in Cebu. That fat fucking drunk is the biggest cheat on earth. It is amazing how that little nasty nail chewing Englishman has every Filipino stupified with his bullshit. Well the truth is, he has his head so far up Felix Guanzon’s ass, he has pretty much turned into Felix’s bitch boy. Jay Orbase in Cebu, the one arm monkey with the burnt face that looks like a crispy shrimp, that is another idiot.

Posted by PI SUCKS at August 7, 2009, 2:31 pm

Koreans, they are hardworking and industrious people, not like the Filipinos who are stupid and lazy. I have total positive comments about the Koreans because they are definitely industrious people and to the most part, very straight forward. Filipinos will lie to you and always break their promise seconds after you make a deal. Filipino Chinese are even worse. There is nothing good about the Philippines except the exploitation of labor. Beautiful country but again, STUPID PEOPLE.

FILIPINOS ARE STUPID. NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT. If there was some level of common sense there than they would have welcomed Koreans with open arms and taken an initiative to work closely with Koreans to bring the Philippines (an absolute failed democracy and shit hole) from poverty to thriving and prosperous developing nation with potential to becoming a Western Country. But as it stands, they are too STUPID and worried more about how loud Koreans are or how rude Koreans are and are totally missing the big picture. Those working abroad are even more stupid because they lack the common sense to take the money they are making and reinvest it into their own country in a positive manner for the development of their country rather than send it back to their fat useless family members who sit outside singing songs, drinking Red Horse and eating fast food all day.

i think you should be even polite in your comments about filipinos because as far as i know you are the shit that tries to whine around and that you really don’t deserve our hospitality and in addition you are showing how rude you are and how hurt you are because of the truth that unravels your being as a korean….maybe you belong to the world of uneducated people and you are acting like one and for your information MR. PI SUCKS you really suck…it only shows how ill mannered you are and i think that you should go back to your mom’s womb for you to be reborn because you really lack social ethics and curse you and your big mouth…anyway i know very well that you would be so hurt and crying now because you just sucked….and that you will be so depressed and you will soon commit suicide…it’s korean style…poor you because nobody loves you and that attitude of yours will pull you to your grave…so if i were you, i’d kill myself because you are a worm,a sick worm who contributes much social problem to your country…you totally suck and you are very irrelevant to be a part of this planet or even your country…you are a son of a bitch fucking korean….loser!!!!!

filipinos should stand up and fight for their rights. if they let these koreans bully them around, they deserve all the abuse.

What’s with all the hate on the comments?
Sure, there may be a lot of abusive, rude
Korean tourists here, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to just generalize and attack ALL Koreans. Come on, every country has its own assholes. From my experience, I have met Koreans who are good-natured, non-racist, polite, and hospitable. Point is, we shouldn’t judge them too quickly.

I am wife of a korean. And I am not korean I am from Uzbekistan, Central Asia. And I can say that korean dicks are the smallest ones. I hate to have sex with my husband. I haven’t been satisfied about a year. I think I am going to become a karaoke whore in the nearest future or to find Uzbekistani migrant worker here in Korea.

Posted by Elliana at February 6, 2010, 6:13 pm

Well, so far, i lived here in korea because my husband is a korean man but all i can say is that just like us filipinos, there are bad ones and good ones. My husband is very good as well as his family. So maybe it depends on you how to handle them, one of the traits i like them here is when they fight, i didnt see them punching each other and after a few minutes they are friends again. Actually, wherever we go, bad ones are all over the world. Racist are all over the world, even us, we discriminate our own kind. im from mindanao, when i was in manila, some of tagalog people mock me for being a bisaya, that i was living in the mountain, that our house was located on the tree, but they dont know that they talk the opposite. Even here in korea, filipinas here also discriminate us for being a bisaya…its so sad isnt it? Lets not judge each other, for who are the better and the worst because the world is round, we dont know what happen to the future. Lets stop this nonsense issue about koreans and filipinos. We are all doomed to die anyway….theres no one great in death. Even though how richest and famous you are, if you will dead, you will just put in a small coffin, that is!

Posted by chamomile at February 11, 2010, 10:45 am

The comments are shocking! Never expected that cause Koreans are kind as far as I can see. As what I have seen too they are disciplined, they know how to wait, fall-in line and etc., sometimes I have wish Filipino’s were like Koreans regarding to self discipline. They will not bumped on you, they know how to wait not like other Filipino’s who are so rude. They are friendly , helpful and entertaining too. So all I can say not all Korean were like that as not all Filipino’s too are rude.

Posted by jc at April 13, 2010, 8:04 am

one of my korean classmate are kinda rude.. well.. he just experience something bad, I guess. Anyway, he bangs the door, he punched the wall… the wooden painted wall part of my classroom, and yeah… he made a hole or two. He punched those big, life-size aircon several times. The boys in my classroom were concern about him asked whats wrong and did something to cheer him up… and yeah he did said “nothing” but still he’s a bit… angry. Me and my classmate ignored him afterwards, not stepping on his own business.

Koreans are generally friendly to me, they don’t think trash about us but they act, in our sense, rude but it can be part of their culture.

yeah, they have their own way to express themselves… they can be Overly-Acted sometimes but that is their culture. At least there’re open-minded not in communicably way. As for the Filipinos, there people who are hardworking (those people are usually outside the country) and some are completely lazy. Although I can really tell that hospitability is the number one best trait of Filipinos while for Koreans , there best traits would be funny in a good way or hardworking. Not all rude.

And for some Americans or Europeans or other races who are tired of being demanded apologies from filipinos for being racist or joking our race, well, yeah we hurt easily but think about it, you.foreigner. greeting in tagalog or saying few and pretty small things about our country (for ex. I kinda like their food or Charice is the best singer I’ve seen) you’d be surprise, we filipinos can be touched deeply and easily and that “pride” word will butt in between this little textbox. ;)

I just hope the Filipinos won’t trash other race, I don’t want my country to be posted as “racist”. Or I don’t want Filipinos to be like those racist who brings a nation down. I want Filipinos to be a role model. ^____^

Posted by Janine at April 18, 2010, 9:07 pm

I’m a Filipino. Pilipino ako para maniwala kayo.

There are really bad ones in every race. It’s just wrong to generalize like that. I have seen bad Koreans too. But majority of Koreans I have met were pretty nice.

Even though I’m not Korean, I feel really bad how some Filipinos are being so racist to them here in this comment forum. When someone is racist I can easily predict that they haven’t got a life and waste every second by posting ridiculous and very hurtful (gosh I almost cried actually) comments.

For the Koreans, I just wish you’ll be more open and sociable when it comes to Filipinos. Trust me, you’ll be more than welcome to be friends with most of us. I hate it that a lot of Koreans are loners in Filipino schools…I think it’ll be so sweet if a Korean and a Filipino would teach each other their own native languages and exchange cultures.

Imagine if they slap you and you give them spaghetti from Jollibee in return. Jesus Christ did not know how to sin, but experienced one of the greatest punishment of his time. God could’ve killed all of those Roman soldiers…imagine looking at your son being tortured when you could easily save him. They did not do any revenge to mankind, at walang masamang ibinunga. Napaka gandang ehemplo nito.

gosh.. almost 3 years have passed since this article was posted and comments dont seem to cease.. well, I dont know what you guys experienced with us Koreans, but I think the same goes for Filipinos too.. not only us, but every people in the world. I’ve been living in the Philippines for more than 10 years coz I’m studying, and frankly, I’ve experienced bad things far more than the good things.. being robbed, used, cheated, almost murdered for no reason, some freaky construction workers staring at me in a weird way -_-; and much more.. but I still have Filipino friends who are really good to me.. in fact, they’re great! they are people whom I can trust.. and they trust me back.. about the Koreans sticking to each other and all.. from what I see (in my area), it’s the Filipinos who dont open up to Koreans. they ignore when Koreans ask questions, and make fun of them coz they can’t speak English well.. I dont want to degrade Filipinos or anything, but since I was little, I always wondered where this “famous Filipino HOSPITALITY” was.. not all, but most Filipinos werent hospitable even when it was my first time meeting them. i guess i just wasnt lucky meeting many good hospitable Filipinos eh? it’s just the way people see things and accept things. I love my country and I want to go back as soon as possible, but that doesnt mean that i discriminate Filipinos or something. I agree that there are a lot of rude Koreans.. even my fellow Koreans hate those rude Koreans. there’s nothing wrong with hating rude people. but i just dont think we all should group people according to their nationalities and give a permanent name for them. no human is perfect and so are we. how would you feel if someone calls you the “cheating Filipinos” or the like? it’s a matter of understanding and yes, a matter of perspective. just help each other out and see things in a different way..
i have so much more to say but i better go finish writing my thesis..

and why do you have to talk about the size of penises?;;; so not related -_-;; and again, not all men (whether Korean, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, American) have small dicks.. lol
no grouping!
